A Woman with Bipolar Disorder who had Thyroid Cancer
By
This patient is neither non-compliant nor is she a substance abuser. This is a functioning bipolar patient who had onset of her bipolar illness at 15 years and had made two suicide attempts before she became under control on lithium. She has had some episodes of depression and did some self cutting at times when she was agitated, probably when in a mixed state. She was maintained on a therapeutic dose of lithium with a blood level of 1.0 to 1.2 and she was able to complete college and then get a job as a special education teacher.
